They stand a much better chance cos they've got the majority of fans supporting them. They are, in effect, the 12th man. They get behind the team and the team receive a boost to play better. Plus, they play most of their games there and are more used to the pitch. Visiting players are unfamiliar with the surroundings and in most cases, away sides tend to play a more defensive style of football, usually letting the team attack more often and the away team just try to "hit them on the counter-attack". Sometimes it works but in most cases the home team triumphs

All the foregoing, plus the visiting teams tactics(generally defensive) allow the home team more of the ball which can lead to goal scoring opportunities.

the crowd is on their side and they are generally more rested because they did not have to travel

also, the home team knows more about the stadium, weather, and field. And the home team generally has better facilities like locker rooms

because they are use to playing at there home ground also they will train etc at there home ground 2
