I like going to the local craft shop and buying clear glass ball ornaments. They come in 3 different sizes. They also come in packs of 6, 12, or 18, depending on the size you buy.

There are a few things that you can do with them.

My favorite is to carefully remove the top hardware, and fill them with fragrant potpourri. Potpourri containing the most unusual items make the best. But remember it has to fit through the small opening at the top of the ornaments. Replace the top hardware, and use a hot glue gun to attatch ribbions, bow, strings of pearls, or anything else you like. They can come out looking very Victorian.

Another Variation: Remove top hardware and using small bottles of fabric paint, swirl different colors inside the ornaments. Remember to only use small amounts, as it will run! Let dry. Replace top hardware. Decorate the outside as described above or leave plain.

Another Variation: Use a clear drying glue, (NOT hot glue!), to cover the ornaments with pieces of lace. Buy extra lace when first starting out, as you will have to "play with" the correct size and shape you want. Trim the lace close to the top hardware, or leave a bit longer and pleat it around the top. Either way, you will probably want to put a ribbon around the the top. Decorate with ribbons, bows, small silk or dried flowers, strings of pearls, or anything else you like.

CAUTION: When creating any of the above projects, NEVER apply hot glue directly to the glass. It is highly likely that the glass WILL BREAK! Always apply the hot glue to the item you are adding, giving it a 1/2 second to cool first.

You could get some clear plastic ball ornaments at the craft store. They can be decorated in many different ways. Right in that section, they usually have free idea sheets hanging there. Once you get some ideas, your imagination will probably take over.
