Often times the cleaning products we use every day can cause the symptoms of ADHD. For example: when an open cleaning product container is in the same room with a "normal" child, the child can show false symptoms or exaggerated symptoms of dyslexia, ADHD, ODD, allergies, sicknesses, etc. When the chemical was taken out of the picture, the child was able to function "normally" again.

Our little ones are bombarded by these chemicals on a daily basis. In schools they use VERY harsh chemicals. In the homes, laundry soap stays in the fabric and can cause reactions. Cleaning chemicals under the sink release fumes. There are chemicals on and in our foods, the list goes on and on.
Shaklee has a great line of home care and laundry products that are completely natural - this is all I use. They also have all-natural supplements that can be very successful in controlling this condition as well.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions or the website.

Hello! Im 22 and have been on concerta since I was in high school (about 7 years). I was getting D's and F's and doing really poorly because I couldnt focus or get anything done. Once they figured out that I had ADHD, the doctor gave me concerta and I got straight As for the rest of high school. If it works correctly, it's not scary, it just allows us hyper people the time we need to focus and get our work done. Im graduating college this year at UCLA, ive been on concerta the whole time! goodluck!

I would beg you not to give it to him. My son started on it at a very early age and within 3-4 months had developed tics. Don't get me wrong, it did seem to help somewhat until it wore off at the end of the day. Then the backlash effect happened. The first tic he developed started to damage his vocal cords. The dosage was adjusted, but the tic remained. We took him off of it. Within a month the tics went away. We adjusted his diet. Changed to unprocessed sugar, cut out dyes, especially the red ones and he did improve. Then Strattera came out. The supposed safe non-stimulant. He devloped tics again with that, which were far worse and more extreme then the Concerta. These drugs weren't made for kids. Concerta is a controlled substance, likened to giving your child cocaine. I am not judging you, I was there, I did it to my child, now the tics he developed with the Straterra have lessened but I am told will never go away now. Of course there are also all the reports emerging that taking Ritalin (which concerta is) alters your chromosones and makes you more susceptible to certain types of cancer. The long term effects are not known. Our kids are guinea pigs and profit makers for the drug companies and doctors who have a stake in them. There are natural things you can do, behavior plans, and much research and learning that can help. Alternative therapies, etc... Please at least try these things before giving up. I did that, then I learned and I continue to learn everyday. It doesn't go away, but there is so much help out there and other ways to deal with the behavior and needs of your son that don't include drugs. Please, please find another way. My son is med free and has an IEP. He had a full time aide to help him stay focused and on track and with organizational skills until this year. He's in 4th grade and gets tutoring and a sensory diet. The school personnel have been very open to trying other methods of helping him learn. I know not all schools are, but your child can learn without the meds with support and understanding. His IEP is based on the ADHD diagnosis as his behavior prevents him from learning. It can be done. I'm not saying everything is rosy, but it is working for him and when there is a problem, then we address and get help for it. We also are able to help pick a teacher who is flexible and understanding. Namaste.

You do have a choice. Get the book: Cures They Don't Want You To Know About. Your child might be eating something that is causeing this. MSG is a preservitive that is known to cause problems. Start giving your child some flaxseed oil. You can also do a google search on natural cures for ADHD. My husband and I both suffered with this and we tried the fish oil and it really helped. Plus this stuff is good for your heart and lots of other things. The reason I said flaxseed oil is because it it suppost to be stronger the the regular fish oil.

sorry...my little brother is on A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. meds but not concerta...he is on Adderol...and if he isn't on his meds...he cant focus, sit still and he forgets whatever you tell him almost instantly...he has been on Adderol(sp) for .....o geez hold up let me think...3 years...he is 12 now. My mother is looking into switching him to the herbal form of Adderol as its suppose to be healthier...because most kids who are A.D.D or A.D.H.D have eating disorders...not that they don't eat, its just that their bodies metabolism works so fast they cant put any weight on...and the ones that are on meds...one of the main side effects are not having an appetite so they still stay skinny..the herbal meds. are suppose to increase their appetite and slow their metabolism down so they can start gaining weight...my little brother is probably the skinniest 12 year old I know lol...Good luck and talk to your doc. about the herbal medications (sorry I don't know the name..but they will know what you are talking about) but try the Concerta first...it may be EXACTLY what he needed ya know? Plus the faster you give it to him...the better he will do socially and academically..good luck again

You could always get a second opinion. Sometimes behavior can be modified by diet. Sugar is a big culprit. You should talk to your pediatrician again if you are unsure. If you still feel unsure...find a different pediatrician to talk to. It is best not to seek advice about this on a Yahoo answer board...it's just to important.

Just give it to him as directed. You have to remember--this is really frustrating the heck out of your son. He doesn't want to be like this and it's so hard for him. Give him the medication as directed and help the poor kid out. I know several kids on this and it has really helped them.

If the doctor says give it to him then i think you should do that. Doctors are there for a reason and we should follow what they say
