I have heard lots about the woman losing weight to increase chances of conception but what if the man is considerably overweight? Does that affect it too? Also, what about his drinking habits? He drinks a little more than he probably should. Also he is almost 40,(almost 2 months away) so could that have an effect on TTC. I am 30

The following can affect sperm:

smoking, drinking, drugs, stress, poor nutrition and lack of exercise (alcohol within normal limits usually does not have a huge effect)

Also hot tubs!!!

Also, men's sperm quality and quantity start to decrease after age 25.

Due to his age he should limit alcohol, exercise and eat right to increase his chances. Also, sex every other day or every 3rd day during your fertile time so his sperm count will be higher. Good luck!

This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler
This book will help you with all of your menstrual and conception questions. It’s for all women - not just women trying to conceive. It covers everything from temperature to mucus checking, etc.. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! It tells you how to figure out your cycle and what to expect. My husband and I tried for a year to conceive and nothing happened. The first month I used the book we conceived right away. Now I am due Feb 2. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

we need to start thinking of our partners in this
some of them may not say anything but they still have feelings
feelings that they are too afraid to express like do you think I might have a low sperm count? or what if it is my fault that she is unable to get pregnant
I remember the first time I miss carried my hus strongly beleive that it was his fault his reasoning was that I have 3 children from a previous marriage so I am ok it him that have a weak sperm
it test after test that he was finally convince that I have a problem
So please talk to you partner don't put him

I don't know if his weight would affect TTC, but my husband quit drinking during the time we were TTC, he felt it was better for his sperm count. Age shouldn't matter as long as he has a healthy prostrate.

being overweight and drinking can certainly affect his performance, but I've never heard of it affecting is fertility. However, there are things like medication, excessive excercise, supplements & stress that can affect a man's fertility.

His overweight and age have nothing to do with it. Your age will make it harder, but obviously not impossible! Don't look for blame... that doesn't help anybody.
