Last night we had a good old fashioned crab boil and had newspaper on the table. Some of the liquid went through the paper. When I took up the paper I had all these white spots there. How do I get rid of them? When I scratch those spots, it comes off a little, but there is still some lightening under there.

and rumor has it white tooth paste will remove white rings on wood furniture ; )

An old East Indian trick to remove marks from wood is to rub the area with a smooth pebble... I have used a glass pebble and it does work.

try rubbing walnut or walnot oil on it, if not then a very light sanding, refinish , then 20 coats of poly so next time you won't need to worry.

I have heard that mineral oil will help. Even if it doesn't, it won't do any harm to the wood.
