Can you describe what a UK 'Stock Car' is? 'Can you also give your views on what UK 'Stock Car Racing' is today?
Seems like a pointless question but believe me, it would help me tremendously,
Thanks, Ray

"Stock Car" Racing is basically banger racing with a posh name. The cars are stripped down to the bare necessities and must have all the safety features required to race, roll-cage, race safety harnesses, fire extinguishers, that kinda stuff. It's great to watch as you can guarantee some madman will total their car at some point in the race. Speed is not the essence in 'banger racing' it's how spectacularly you can barge your way to the finish line without trashing your own car.

Stock Cars are simply old cars with the windshields and windows taken out. the drivers race them around, and there are several different kinds of racing. One is where you race, like as in nascar, and whoever gets to the finish line first, wins. Another type of stock car racing is when there is many of these racers, and they are penned in a certain area. The cars back up and smash other cars, untill the smashed cars cannot go anymore. Everyone is against each other, and the object is to wreck the other stock cars beofre they wreck yours. The winner is the last car that is still running/moving, and has the ability to still crush other cars

Hope my answer helped you.
Take care, now!

british stock cars are custom built race cars with just 1 seat in them. they run american V8s in them for power. they are mainly owned and run by farmers and scrap dealers as it is a cheap form of racing. there is also an international championship. they are built on square tubing that is VERY strong with a large wing on the roof. some of the fastest drivers are stuart smoth, frankie wainman and dave mellor. it is still a very popular sport today. they are not as some people have said old beat up cars they are real genuine race cars that can accelerate very quickly and cause some serious damage to a weaker car. for more details on british stock cars check out the website for BRISCA. that is the official governing body for the race series. the cars look nothing like US stockcars. stock cars in the uk look like as much like road cars than f1 cars look like aunt mildred little nissan micra down the road. the cars every body are talking about here are actually called bangers. they are not stock cars at all. the only thing stock cars have that road cars have is the drivers seat, the steering wheel, the engine and the 4 wheels at each corner. yes the us stock cars do look like the road going version but the uk cars don't. i should know what am talking about as i have been to countless race meetings round the country and my brother and a friend of mine are loopy about them. you want to see a real stock car then then look at the official website for them and there you will find a true british stock car

In the UK stock cars are highly modified cars with the glass removed, and everything stripped out, and a roll cage put in. They race round a small oval track, and often collide with each other.

They are completely different to American stock cars, which are the equivalent of UK touring cars.

Stock car racing is a form of automobile racing found mainly in the United States and Great Britain held largely on oval rings of between approximately ½ mile and 2.66 miles (about 0.8 to 4.2 kilometres) in length, but also raced occasionally on conventional racing circuits, also known as road courses. Ovals shorter than one mile (1.6 km) are called short tracks; unpaved short tracks are called dirt tracks; longer ovals are typically known as superspeedways. Races are generally 200 to 600 miles (300-1000 km) in length. Average speeds in the top classes are around 160 mph (275.5 km/h), compared to 220 mph (354 km/h) in comparable levels of open wheel racing. Some NASCAR races can get up to speeds of 200 mph at tracks such as the Daytona International Speedway and the Talladega Superspeedway.
