An independent is not necessarily a throw away vote. What you do is pick the best person for the job regardless of party and never vote a straight ticket.
Most Americans can probably admit to voting independently at some point in their lives. Those who vote a straight ticket are either radically behind their party or uninformed about the candidates.

I am a registered Republican because it is the party that best expresses my views at the current time. It is better to have 70% of something you want rather than 100% of nothing.
I used to be a Libertarian; their focus on individual rights suited me. I left when the party became so focused on legalizing drugs. The idea may have its merits but it cannot be the focus of a serious party; after all the main reason for a political party is to get your people elected.
I typically vote Republican when they agree with my views, I have voted Democrat in the past.

Voiceless! If you are not one of the major parties then you can't be heard. Independent, Libertarians, Green (the list goes on) party members do not have a voice in Washington. If this is a Democracy run by the people and for the people Washington should make an effort to allow everyones voice be heard.

I'm a conserned citizen who takes the time to read about the issues and check voting records of canadates and vote according to what the've done not what they say in a 2 min. political commercial. But sadly I don't see many that believe in conservatism any more. Which is among other things for SMALLER GOVERNMENT. And less interference in my daily life.

You are a Libertarian!!! www.lp.org. check it out.
If you're sick and tired of all the Democrat or Republican/Neo con BS then check out the 3rd largest Political Party in the country. We've got the best of both parties but we never would have went to war in Iraq. We want small govt., term limits, accountablity. We want to fire half of Washington DC, clean out all the lobbyists, and then start over with a govt. the way our forefathers wanted it.

I am not a lemming. I vote Republican because the candidates I vote for stand for what I believe in and if they don't I don't vote for them.

to be perfectly honest there is no political party that represents me well at this time
and voting for a third party is NOT "throwing your vote away", throwing your vote away would be voting for a party that does not represent your ideals
