You can go either way. There are products that require an internet connection and then there are some that have an aerial built in.

Personally I'd go down the built in aerial route. I'd go for the Hauppauge WIN TV Nova T-Stick or Nova USB 2.

I can assure you that Hauppauge are the best when it comes to TV on your PC. They've been in the business the longest and always have the latest products on the market. go to www.hauppauge.co.uk to check out the products they offer, select Products, followed by Digital Terrestrial you'll see the one for the laptop on that page.

If you're looking for a cheap place to buy get along to www.ebuyer.co.uk

Oh yeah if you're running the thing off of your laptop battery it'll drain it pretty quick,

Get a DVB stick with tuner to plug in your USB2 port - you get timeshift, a program guide and all the Freeview channels. Maplin is about the best place and they have a sale on. Plug it in to a roof top aerial to auto tune it to all the channels after that you can probably get away with using the tiny aerial on a magnet that comes with it. Some even have a remote control. Since Film 4 moved to Freeview I watch the movies in bed on my laptop. Talking of which - there is one starting in 15 minutes....

I have Lifeview DTV on my laptop
you can can plug it into the supplied settop aerial, for digital channels, or use a main house aerial (or ordinary set top) and just get the ordinary 5 terrestrial channels

you do need to be in a good signal area to get full digital capability off of the supplied aerial.

you dont need to be connected to the interent

You can only get one in pcmia form to go in the slot on the side, you can get digital or analogue, either way if you are close to the transmitter you may get away with the small ariel supplied otherwise you need to be connected to the house or a seperate full size ariel.
You do not need to be connected to the internet.

internet tv is not much in use up to that level as our ordinary cable television networks and even the quality is much much low.

I suggest you to use an ordinary tv tuner card rather than a internet tv.

For laptops, wide range of tv tuner cards are available.(external boxes)
1.USB tv tuner cards (starts INR 1,200/- - 25$approx as in india)
2. firewire tv tuner cards(starts INR 2300/- - 46$approx)
3. S video input cards (rare)

I suggest u to use USB ones, best for normal use, viewing, recording live TV, and even from your VCR and other inputs.

I am using a USB tuner card which includes FM radio as well and I used to record my old tapes too.

Trust me I am a Dell employee.

Cheers......!!
