Why do you have a habit of asking racist questions?
Don't you trealize this hurts people's feelings and is unkind?
Don't you understand that it is generalizing the actions of few members or subsets of a group to all members of a group even though everyone in the group is an individual with individual actions, attitudes , and beliefs?
and aren't you able to have the empathy to put yourself in another's place and understand how this question might offend people?
Ebonics is often the attempt to build closeness by sharing the characteristic of the group. While pursuing an elementary education degree, we learned that parent's teach ebonics as they fear the child becoming one of the dominent group and eshewing their cultural mores.
Parent's need to be taught that it is in the child's best interest to learn the dominant language of "proper English" in order to succeed in the world as far as getting and maintaining jobs, and not as an attempt to impose restrictions or beliefs on their child. Many maintain both stlyes of language, switching between them in the apporpriate situation.
Children should not be criticized for using ebonics, but rather the correct way of saying something should just be stated after their ebonic phase with no judgement or correction. They will just start picking it up as time goes on.
Ebonics is actually a cultural badge of sorts and almost a dialectic difference often chosen for cultural reasons, to equate it with laziness is wrong.
I felt Phoenix and emberofcoal gave the best responses and it is a shame you offended emberofcoal and others by this question....BTW there are plenty of lazy white people around...

Just so you know, there are African Americans who do go to school and can speak English very well. This comment to me makes it seem as though we,as African Americans, are uneducated, but in reality for you to make a generalization like that just shows that you're uneducated. There are always exception to the rule. Ebonics and slang are the same as any jargon used in the English language. That's like calling people form Texas and Oklahoma uneducated because they say "ya'll" instead of "you all." Before you go making generalizations maybe you should minimize your generalization a bit, because you might offend a very well educated black woman in law school, such as myself.

Language is constantly changing. Elements of "ebonics" will become a part of mainstream English. So, essentially, we will all learn ebonics. And if people don't learn proper English, "proper" English will change to fit the common conception of it.

Pretty soon all the kids will be writing like text messages. Why not a class that combines ebonics and text messaging?

Hon, if you're going to criticize somebody else's speaking and/or writing English, you really should have your grammar perfect. For instance, there is no need for the adjective "more" if you put the "er" on the end of "easy." That's redundant. Not all Whites are enthusiastic learners, either, having taught both.

I'm sure you could get parents to sign their kids up for ebonics.
