I don't know!

"I don't know" is still an answer. It may not be one that you like & you may wonder why they would bother to contribute at all but such is life. You get some duds & some jewels...you just have to sift through them all. Besides, yahoo rewards everyone with 2 points no matter how silly they are. Except for the one that you deem worthy of "best" & 10 points...

Well.....by now, counting the response to your question, you must have realized how many people are craving for those 2 points. I think new set up of Yahoo Answers would consider whether to award two points for "Sorry",..."bla...bla...", "I dont know" etc. kinds of answers.

I doubt whether I have ever done or ever would do. My philosophy in life is not to speak if I have nothing to say, If I don't know the answer I would say so and find out. Why do I have the internet?

Well if your referring to yahoo answers then most would answer "I don't know " just to get points. In other circumstance we usually give this answer because we are unsure of an answer so need time to think of a good answer. I actually hate it when people give such an answer, its so annoying.

if you mean to life in general, then it is a reflection upon a persons honesty with themselves and you. They are sharing the fact they have a "flaw" or are not perfect by knowing the answer which is what we all struve to be throughout time. By admitting this they open an opportunity to learn and further themselves.

If you mean in yahoo answers, it's just to get more points, duh!!! That or simple boredom, but of course none of us have ever done that................

because the next word is "But" at which point one launches in to a suggestion of an alternative course of action.
Alternatively "I don't know" gets you 2 points just like a really long answer.

I don't know. lol

Sorry couldn't resist.

Seriously though they are annoying, but it is most likely they are just after the two points and think they are being clever and funny and I doubt whether anything can be done about it, other than giving them a bad rating or reporting abuse, but then are you not sinking to their level if you do?

1. Sometimes it takes incredible self-confidence to admit that you don't have an answer.

2. I'd much prefer an 'I don't know', rather than rambling blather.

Good Luck and Warm Wishes.

Honesty maybe? If on here, possibly for points, in real life, if you don't know better to admit it than throw out any old answer. Maybe, "I don't know but will find out", is the better answer.
