I actually volunteered at a local theatre doing makeup for the kid's plays. They teach you how to do it initially and then you pretty much get to do it yourself thereafter. Great experience!

go to cosmetology school thats the closest you can get. And doing theatrical make-up is just A LOT of foundation, a little eyeliner, and some blush. It's nothing special or hard and most likely you wont make even $30,000 a year on it. I wouldnt do it if I were you.

Is there a local theatre group near you? Many cities have a local theatre troupe that puts on plays and musicals in a small venue (300 seats or less). One thing they all have in common -- they're ALWAYS looking for volunteers. If all else fails, most high schools put on plays and musicals as well, and they're usually looking for help. Two places to start, anyway...

I don't know about totally free but the cheapest way would probably be to go to your local Barnes&Noble or Borders and get a book on it. You'll also need a patient guinea pig to practice on.

Ask the drama teacher at your school if she or he can teach you. If he/she says no, then ask if one of their students is willing to teach you.If that doesn't work, enter the drama club at your school. They usually do a lot of stuff, especially around holidays.
