In a University of Georgia study, it was shown that when it comes to employment, skin color is more desirable that level of education. Lighter-skinned African Americans are more likely to gain employment than darker-skinned African Americans--even when the darker-skinned African Americans have more qualifications.

"We found that a light-skinned black male can have only a bachelor’s degree and typical work experience and still be preferred over a dark-skinned black male with an MBA and past managerial positions, simply because expectations of the light-skinned black male are much higher, and he doesn’t appear as ‘menacing’ as the darker-skinned male applicant,”

Maybe... but then in some places darker blacks are treated better than lighter ones. In South Africa, everyone knows that the lighter-skinned black people (called "coloreds" of all things!) are "mixed blood," black and white. Most of the blacks and the whites won't have anything to do with them. They are their own social and cultural group.

At least, that's how it was when I visited almost ten years ago. Johannesburg was worse than Cape Town. I hope it's continued to relax, because South Africa is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

I hate questions like this. It is just asking for an argument. I don't think lighter skinned blacks are getting any better treatment than darker skinned ones. Perhaps you should ask the celebrities why they are lightening their skin.

I think if someone is going to be prejudice, then it will not matter to what degree the darkness of the skin is.

To Dogman: you have the nerve! Serial killings, rapes, and bombings are done by White people, get it straight!

Secondly, I think light skinned people are treated better than darker skinned blacks because thats just the way life goes. Beyonce and the others actually hater the skin they were in. Everyone who is black should be glad their skin is kissed by God's sun.

Lighter skinned blacks think that they are better then darker skinned blacks in some places! A black aquantence of mine told me that her grandmother had a fit (shes a light skinned black) when she started dateing a very darked skin black. Her grandma told her "We've worked for 100's of years to get this fare and now your going to go mess it up for us"! Can you believe that?

that is true around the whole world. by societies standards of beauty, dark skin is not really considered beautiful. But, its like that everywhere. Not just among blacks.
But I agree with jrayhp. The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice!

Yes it happens.....when I was in college me and one of my friends went to the mall. I am lighter than her and I was treated way better at a store than her. They offered me the store credit card and didn't offer her nothing.

Ok, here's how it works:

1. Give us some time to digest your question before you post another and another. You don't want to be labeled as a troll.

2. The Blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice baby!

Peace

i think it is definitely true to some extent. it is one of the grim reminders of racism. there's a book you might be interested in. it can explain this better than i can:
