It seems to take away the point of this, which is to have people answering questions in their own words. If someone wanted a Google answer, surely it would be simpler to put their question in the search window.

Well, I have seen many questions where a simple Google search would have given the answer but its still posted and the best answer chosen by the asker is among those answers only. Probably, thats what people need help with.

But you have raised a good point. I think, if somebody needs a genuine opinion, it is worth mentioning that in the question only. And you can say that you have already searched the Internet. That makes your intention clear to the person who is answering the question and you will get more specific answers.

I would like to know what others think about this?

Although I understand what you are saying you also have to realize that many of the questions that are asked on this site are factual questions that can be and are answered by doing a simple search on the search engine. When it comes to emotions, love, situations, etc. that's when a person's own words shine through.

Wiki is a common one. Nothing like reading a post that takes 45 scrolls to get to the bottom.

However, there are questions that just beg, "why didnt you just google it."

Interesting fact: google got its name from Googol, which is 10 with 100 zeroes after it.

Well, my friend, people will have to answer this question in their own words. No searches can be done here.

Good question - and I know what you mean.
