you set them in the ceiling (above the walls) and wire them up. Set up the switch and Alacazam!!!! Amazing but true

You need to measure out where you want them, and before you drull the holes, stick a screwdriver up 1st to make sure you're not on a joist. Then drill the holes out (it will say in the instructions for your lights the size, usually about 63mm) and pass the cable round each one. Link the 1st hole with the switched supply cable, and you're away. obviously kill the power 1st!
