Contrary to what "diturtlelady2004" thinks, construction is a very good industry. I know of many plumbers, electricians, drywallers and even bricklayers that are making close to 6 figures. Don't let the stereotypes fool you. Crane operators can make 150,000 a year. How many people out of college or university do you know make that? Don't get me wrong, its always good to have an education, but make sure you check out all your options first.
Remember, restaurants, retail outlets, financial institutions, education, and other so called "higher class" jobs are often good, but are often very unstable positions. Construction is always going to be there, because when construction stops, all other industries stop.
Good luck.

If you are smart, a university or college or some type of post secondary education that will keep you out of construction or fast food as a career.
