Well to put it simply a Celeron is a cutdown version of a Pentium. Just exactly how it is cutdown depends on which particular Celeron and Pentium you are talking about (and there are a lot). Usually, the Celeron will either have less cache or a lower FSB, but the architecture is the same in both.

In a nutshell, Celerons are just a lot slower than Pentiums. Pentiums have a lot more cache memory than Celerons, but there are other advantages as well. A Celeron might be a OK in an office pc for wordprocessing and stuff like that, but I you want entertainment on your pc like video games, video editing or anything else, a Celeron just won't cut it.
