Today they had to make a public apology for messing about trying to see if one of them could squeeze inside a tumble drier & endure being spun around. The act was captured on a camera phone & the footage got released to the media. Presumably what outraged people is that they were doing it whilst on paid duty?
I'm sure they train frequently, but it's the nature of the job that there will be some very boring periods for full-time firemen whilst waiting for a call-out... so what is so wrong with them keeping themselves occupied? A dangerous stunt, but at least it stops them from dying of boredom, and I'm sure their job is a lot more dangerous at times.
Isn't it the person that released the footage that should really be apologising for the embarassment caused to the fire brigade?
Is it irresponsible of the media to broadcast an isolated incident that isn't really 'news', especially where the only outcome would enevitably be harm to the reputation of a public service?

It all sounds like rather a tempest in a teacup to me, but I agree that the person who published the photo was at least as much in the wrong as anything the firemen did. After all, the real person who had a right to complain was the owner of the dryer, as it could have caused it considerable damage to have such a heavy load. If they need to apologize at all, it would be to him.

Oh reallly!!! Some people really need to get a life and stop bloody whining about a small prank. I quite agree with you - and if the fire brigade had any sense, they could have said that it was some form of research.

Yeah so it is a bit of a silly and possibly dangerous prank but the media are so pathetic making a big deal of this.

Aye, there's always some git waiting to spoil everyone's fun by cliping on other people. May they fall into an open tumble drier and that the fireman that comes to rescue them have unfortunately been off the day they did tumble drier training...

It's nice to know that we in the U.S. aren't the only ones who demand public apologies for harmless, trivial incidents and statements that MIGHT offend someone, somewhere.

erm maybe yes, i dont think they would really should object to making an apology its a "meet in the middle" kind of agrrement, but they should in no way lose their jobs.

No, if every body had to say sorry for every daft thing they did it would be a bit boring
