English football in general is very fast paced and direct to the point, which we all know is trying to score. It's all about counter atacks. So what do you get? Defenders that are good in the air, mid-fielders that can pass and forwards that can finish! And thats all the country produces. It's American style soccer with better players! Too mechanic! Players who don't act like robots don't get to start in their clubs... And I'm talking about club level.
So... when the English Team has to play a team that changes tempo and has more offensive options (I mean tactically),they dont really know what to do!
I guess what I mean is, English Football doesnt encourage that much individuality and flare, so those who would be showtime players, primetime performers, don't develop that way... It is a team sport, but brilhant individuals make the difference!
It's like a guy who knows he want's a chick! He knows what to do, but he has no finesse or personality to do so!

what i don't understand is the quality of their players:

Paul Robinson: Best England keeper.... So far
Gary Neville and Ashley Cole: Good attacking wing backs
John Terry and Rio Ferdinand: Top quality put together
Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon and Joe Cole: Great bunch of midfields
Wayne Rooney, Micheal Owen: Good firepower.

They have other good players too, don't know why they have no silverware.

We've got a tactically naive manager! He must be on the phone to Sven. lol. Seriously he plays players that aren't on form(Rooney, Carrick, Rio, A. Cole) and plays players based on form 2 seasons old(Lampard) and players who aren't good enough(Crouch). Lets sack the **** and get in Rodney Marsh or Big Sam. Someone to inspire our lads instead of fill their minds with delusional grandeur! Please Steve Maclaren resign now. Either that or get some passion in them over payed, over rated Gimps that dont play the same football for there clubs as they do for England. And Brian Barwick and the FA have to take some of the blame too! Lets get some pride back into our country!!

I think we have the wrong attitude to football in england. We say "oh well they tried hard" and make excuses for them - at the end of the day they are professionals and should work harder at what they do. Can you imagine the brazilians saying "ahh lads, you did your best" after a shameful international defeat? Of course not - if they don't perform they are a national disgrace, and so they have to work hard. Maybe we should take a leaf out of their book - the fans get tough!

because they are. england is the most arrogant country with the least reason to be arrogant. about EVERYTHING. the only good thing to come out of england is SOME music. anyhoo their team is completely average (sometimes better than average) and i don't understand why everyonee goes on about them all day. rooney is the most overrated player. he SUCKS. and he looks like a pig. and is rude and bogan. david beckham is past his best. crouch sucks. gerrads pretty good but again, overrated. get over yourselves pommies!

They were not ordinary tonight. They were not even that good. God what an embarrassment watching them play. Only good point was the Jocks getting beat. At least that's brought them down to earth.

I wouldn't consider them ordinary. I'm curious to know what makes you think that? And what teams do you consider to be exciting???

Because thre is no longer pride in playing for your country when you get so much more playing for a club and advertising hair gel, mobile phones, cars, etc.
