IN mexico many people live with their parents like forever. I'm hipanic age 26 and i live with my parents AND it's fine. But i keep hearing white americans( or at least people who have a similar culture) saying that they should move out by 18 or that their parents want them out . My kind of people we live all together and it's fine, except for the privacy thing. But if anything the only thing that bothers me is i have to hear my parents fighting all the time. As long as i help out with money, what is it so bad to live with my parents? and why is it so bad for you guys that have this culture of moving out?

Around here, if you still live at home after 18 or 20, you're considered a loser who can't support himself and has never grown up. Moving out is a rite of passage. That's just the way it is, although with house prices the way they are, I don't blame anyone for staying at home.

If that works in your culture, then that's fine.

In the US culture, adults are expected to move out on their own at some point. That's usually after college or military service, when they have a job and can support themselves. I can't put a specific age on it, but it's usually somewhere between 18 and 24, give or take. Part of the reason is that this is a sign of independence and maturity. Part of it is that the person may want some privacy.

It doesn't always happen, of course. I now of people who are in their 40's and still living with at least 1 parent.
