It used to load Windows very quickly, the Welcome screen would just flicker on for a second. It seems to have started to hang on the Welcome screen for 30 seconds or so ever since installing a PCI wireless network adapter, even after a fresh installation of Windows.

I assume this is because it is taking this time to connect to the wireless network. However, I also have a laptop with a wirless PCMCIA adapter that connects much quicker - it does not hang at the Welcome screen at all. Now considering my PC is 3.2ghz, 1gb RAM, and the laptop is 800mhz, 128mb RAM, it doesn't seem right that the desktop should load slower.

Could I solve this by buying a different wireless adapter for my desktop, and how can I tell if it's going to cause this hanging before purchase?

We had an identical problem with a Linksys card installed in a PC. We got slow boot, intermittent errors, followed by crashing on boot. Replacing the card fixed the problem.

Sometimes hardware is faulty right out of the box.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is CCleaner, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.

CCleaner is also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than nomal. Download it here for free: http://bit.ly/1mQZhtQ
