I moved to the mountains about 8 months ago and I've recently discovered I have a mouse problem, which I'm not surprised because I'm surrounded by wildlife. People told me to get cats to keep the mice away but I can't because I have 2 dogs. Also, I would rather not use mouse traps, they seem so unsanitary and messy. I have checked all the walls and cupboards, I don't even know how they're getting in! Any suggestions on how to get rid of these pests?

Honestly, the high pitched device doesn't work! I know, I lived out in the country and had a mouse problem! I got a cat and even it didn't help. The cat just played with the mice. The only thing that DID seem to work was setting mice traps (the old fashioned kind)...use peanutbutter and wear rubber gloves. Even then, it's still going to be a daily ritual for you to set and clean the traps because the only wild life I know of that WILL keep mice away is a weasel and trust me...ya don't want one of THOSE in your house...i had one of those too LOL....i'm now a happy to say i live in the city!

You can buy this device that emits a really high-pitched sound that mice can hear, but you can't...it is supposed to make mice run away from the sound. I don't know if it works, never used one, but I know they are out there. It's probably a good thing to buy if you're living out in the mountains where there will always be mice, rather than buying traps over and over.

Cats! Once the smell the litter box, they naturally go away. Just clean the litter box once daily and you will have no problems. Mice wouldn't even want to come in. I have 2 cats in my apartment but the entire house was renovated with everything new.

Keep your dogs outside and get 2 cats for inside. It should work providing that your dogs will get along with the cats. Go on the website and type in pet adoptions for cats. You should find someone willing to give the cats away rather than sell them. I adopted my cats in Texas and moved back home to New Jersey. They absolutely hate the weather but thank goodness I have wall-to-wall carpet. They were use to that in Texas. Anyway, good luck on getting rid of those mice! I'm really scared of those things.

Have you checked around your plumbing? Sometimes there are sizable holes where the pipes are run into the house. Try stuffing the gaps with steel wool, then use caulking to seal it there. That is, if you can be sure the dogs won't get at it.

Good luck!
