Not sure where you got that one from? Trust me if it was true it would be plastered all over the news throughout the world. Beckham is the best player in the world, England had some bad breaks in the World Cup but he is very much alive and will return!!! Watch out for Rooney??

DAVID BECKHAM is lucky to be alive after brake pipes were sabotaged on his Ferrari, it was revealed last night.

The Manchester United and England star, who has been the target of a long-running hate campaign by soccer thugs, was alerted to the problem by a dashboard warning light as he drove along the M6 motorway.

Car-mad Beckham took the pounds 220,000 Ferrari 550 to a garage near the home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, he shares with his Posh Spice wife Victoria and their baby son Brooklyn.

Mechanics examined the car, then police were called in. Someone had tried to sever one of the brake pipes but botched the job.

A close family friend said: "This could have been an attempt to seriously hurt or even kill David."

Another friend added: "Luckily whoever it was did not know what they were doing. If they had David could have been involved in a bad car crash."

The car was tampered with outside the Beckham home in May last year. He only has garage space for two vehicles, so several are parked on the street.

Beckham and Victoria were so disturbed they hired a firm of American security specialists to protect their fleet of cars.

The friend added: "This is the sort of thing that makes both David and Victoria very paranoid."

Beckham has been subjected to taunts about his wife and their son at matches by baying football yobs.

His sending-off against Argentina during the France '98 World Cup brought death threats from fans who blamed him for England crashing out of the tournament.

Police riot vans became a regular sight at Old Trafford after Beckham returned to training. But the insults were just the tip of the iceberg.

Bullets with his name carved on them have been sent through the post to his home and the team's training ground.

One of his cars, a Honda Prelude, was stolen and set on fire, a BMW convertible was scratched and he has narrowly escaped being beaten up in a nightclub.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Scotland Yard had foiled a kidnap plot to snatch Posh and their baby.
