Prior the binary eplosive scare I'd tell you to put the guy in a plastic bottle half filled with air. Put him in your carry on like any beverage. Now I'm not sure how to take him as carry on. You are only allowed containers of 4 oz in size. I guess you could put your fish in one, and load up your quarter sized clear plastic bag with additional containers with 4 oz of water. Then try to buy some room temp bottled water at a store. (Say you're buying it for grandma. Her teeth are bad, and cold water hurts her teeth.) Put the betta, and your water in a empty container you brought in your carry on. Slowly add the new water in. (Be sure to drink a little of it so people don't think you are an insane terrorist mastermind.)

Honestly if might be easier to ship the betta in plastic bottle/bag in a cooler, in a box labeled fragile. Be sure to double bag the bottle/bag. Tape the bag bottle down and suround it with packing foam, or air bags.

PS- be sure to use clean water, and not feed the betta for 12 hours before putting him in the container. He will live weeks without food. The same isn't true if he fouls his water with his own waste.

Bettas can transport like any other fish. Put him in a plastic bag like the pet stores send fish home w/ people. leave plenty of air in the top of the bag and send him overnight delivery package him in a cooler or something to keep the water the same warm temperature and he should be able to survive about 36 hours or so. You won't be able to take him as a carry on and I wouldn't suggest shipping him as plain cargo. be sure to mark the container "Live FISH" and check with the airlines for any more precautions or regulations you need to meet.

Im not really sure this is legal...but i actually did this when i went to Austrailia and i took my beta with me cuz i didnt trust my boyfriend to feed him while i was gone....Considering the changes of what you can and cant bring on the airplane has changed since then...this is what i would do. Put him in a clear plastic baggie...dont use ziploc bags or others like that...they leak...get one from an actual pet store. Put just enough water for him to be comfortable but dont over do it...he wont be in there to long. Dont tie the top...rubberband it! This is gonna sound odd...but tape the small baggie to your body. I wore a long dress and taped my the back of my thigh.Use masking tape and wrap it around your entire thigh..a couple times. After you walk through the whole metal detector/baggage check ordeal. Find a fast-food restaurant...mine was a Burger King and buy a large water. Most of the time they give you an empty cup. Take your cup into the bathroom and into the stall. Dump your fishy in his temp. new home and put on the lid and add a straw. (ditch the bag he was in) When boarding time is near just put the cup upright in your purse(Bring a decently sized purse...that a cup will hide in)....WALAH...fish is ur new travel companion....its hard to believe but I actually did this! I guess i love my fish....shame i wouldnt have done that for my boyfriend.....

You can wrap your betta fish in warm damp moss, bettas actually breath air to can be out of water as long as they are damp, keep him in the damp moss in a little container with air holes. Or you simply put him in a fish bag.
