Chameleons (family Chamaeleonidae) are squamates that belong to one of the best known lizard families. They are known for their ability to change their color, their elongated sticky tongue, and for their eyes which can be moved independently of each other. The name "chameleon" means "earth lion" and is derived from the Greek words "chamai" (on the ground, on the earth) and "leon" (lion).

Try Wikipedia. They have information on almost everything and it's usually acurate. Occasionally, on the more political pages, things are left that are completely biased and just plain wrong!, but for something like a Chameleon, I doubt there are too many "Chameleon haters" trying to start rumors against them. :) (Wikipedia is an online site that actually allows people to edit the encyclopedia content. Kinda cool. If you find out anything about Chameleons that isn't there, you can add to it yourself. Don't worry if you're a bad writer. People go through and edit everything all the time. That's how it stays accurate. Sometimes things pop on that you just aren't expecting. For example: Dinosaurs. I had a Computer teacher that, for fun, added a comment about Barney(that purple thing on public tv) to the Dinosaur page. I'm betting it isn't there now, and if it is, it's not how he left it.

They are from the lizard family and is about 1 feet long. They have a tongue which is longer than their body and which is used for catching its prey(insects and spiders). The tongues are very sticky.Chameleons can change the colour of their body. Most people think they do this for camouflage, but they actually do it to control their body temparature.
