I just recently got into it, so I bought some of the old seasons on DVD because they make a lot of references to the old episodes and I don't understand what they are talking about. In the last episode in season 3, Lionel Luther goes to prison for murdering his parents. They show him shaving his head near the end, does anyone know why he does this?

Not Lex Luther, Lionel Luther. He is Lex's father in the show.

the shaving of the head was like in the godfather all old business will be handled today remember lex was posioned,clark was being attacked i believe and so on everyone that had turned on him was being dealt with and they left it hanging untill the next season

It was Lionel Luther who went to prison and shaved his head. Lionel is Lex Luther's dad.
As for why he shaved his head, I think it was mainly to show the state of depression or perhaps depravity the man was living in. Its been a while since I have seen that episode, but I think he was going just a little bit crackers for some reason.

Lionel is shaving his head because people have to when they go to prison. Lex is his son, so it wasn't so he would be bald. and if you watch an episode in season 4 where Lionel and Clark switch bodies there's some really good acting there.

The way they portrayed it, I think he was just shaving it to seem a little more "hardened". It may also be because at that time they let on that he was sick (something that he would have died from had it not been for what happens in season 4, but I don't want to spoil how it happens).

I dont Smallville. When I was at a red sox game over the summer, Tom Welling, themain chararater sat next to me in the personal suites. It was pretty cool. I got his autograph and picture too.

Maybe because they want him to look like the Lex Luthor in the comics, or so that he won't be as recognizable.

it was because he was in prison. i have no idea i thought it was just for effect to make him look evil.
