But many seem to take it too seriously. We Brits have always been secure and comfortable to be able to laugh at ourselves. GUYS ACROSS THE POND: LIGHTEN UP, CHILL OUT!!!!

I don't mean to be impolite, but a lot of the brits that I worked with were demeaning about it and not only that, but they put all Americans in the same category.

I had one guy say that if it weren't for the brits the Indians would still own the land. And that was supposed to be funny? You have to realize that there are still some sore subjects here that some people don't find funny. Some people do, but then some people don't.

I think it's all in who you are poking fun with...poking fun with someone and at some one are different things. And certainly laughing at yourself or other brits is different as well. I think it depends.

It doesn't really matter because both brits and Amers think they are better than anyone else. Let's see how many actually laugh at that.

I laugh at myself, but no one else can. Does that even make sense to you?

A lot of Americans cannot take a joke. A shame really. I am an American and I like the British sense of humor.

I agree, the ability to poke fun at oneself is in my opinion the best form of humour. Its the same as choosing the underdog..how Brittish! Y'know when I was a kid, I always wanted the baddies to win in cartoons, because I knew they never would! I |Brittish through and through lol!!!!!!!!!

The thing with Americans is (I'm letting you in on a little-known secret here...) they aren't born of the womb like the rest of us. I once stumbled across a field where they were being grown...GROWN! Like crops!

Therein lies the answer to your question my son.

Maybe they don't understand your humour. Most British humour is too dry for us over here. Or are you poking fun, then you are right, we have a hard time laughing at ourselves.
