No a miscarriage is not the same as birth. In a miscarriage your baby dies while still in the the woman. Its very unfortunate and a horrible thing to happen to a family. It can be painful, especially the further along in the pregnancy you are.

I've had 2 miscarriages so let me share my experiences with you.

First you will feel cramping, and it will be painful, like very, very heavy menstrual cramps. You might even feel like you are being stabbed in the abdomen, and you might also have cramping across the lower back, and in the area of the kidneys...kind of like a vice grip.

Your bleeding will also be like a very heavy period. There might also be clots and tissue which are expelled. If you do have any tissue, save them in a ziploc bag, and take them into your OBGYNs office. They will want to see these to see if it is just clots or if it is fetal tissue. If you do bleed, monitor yourself and make sure that you don't bleed thru a maxi pad with in an hour. If you do, get to the doctor or the ER right away, to aviod hemmorraging. And your bleeding might not be constant. In my expericence I would bleed on and off over the days. And your bleeding should not last more than a month. If it does, go to your OBGYN and have an exam to see if the miscarriage has cleared. And if you do stop bleeding with in a month, schedule a follow up to make sure you are healed and that there are no other complications.

With all of this said, you might be having a miscarriage and not bleed at all. This is what is called a 'missed-miscarriage'. Your OBGYN can determine if this is happening to you (it's happened to me once), and will discuss the possbility of having a D&C.

If you have mulitple miscarriages you can request that genetic tests be preformed on the fetal tissue and you can also request a full panel of blood tests for you to see if there are problems. Your blood can tell alot about the general health of your body.

Good luck with everything.

No, it's not the same. A miscarriage has a lot of cramping. Sort of like having a years worth of period cramps all at once.
With a miscarriage, the uterus expels the fetus. You do need to make sure you get medical attention so that all of the tissue is removed from the uterus. If it's not it will turn into a poison or an infection and could be fatal. Wish you well.

I had a miscarriage years ago. I was three, almost four months pregnant. It is one of the most horrifying experiences in my life. I cramped terribly and started to bleed. We went to the hospital and while they were walking me to the back in emergency my water broke. I had to pee in a cup and there was FLESH floating in the cup. I cried and cried, cramped and bled. Then they gave me a gown to put on and as I was standing and got it on blood was continually running down my legs. I stood there and cried in a pool of my own blood. It hurts! I cannot compare it with childbirth because I've had two children and it doesn't feel like that, it's more like horrible menstrual cramps. They gave me a DNC (cleared out my uterus and such) and I was crampy for a day or so afterward. It's not funny, it's not a joke, it's a horrible experience that has affected me since it happened.

if you had a late miscarriage it would be the same as giving birth as you would give birth, but only to a smaller baby
an early miscarriage is nothing like giving birth, more like bad period pains, as the uterus doesnt have to contract the same way as it would to push a full term baby out.
i have had both and they are totally different and terrible and wonderful experiences for the same reason..the baby.
