best way to start is by contacting web design studios near you and asking if they have any freelance work and asking if they could put you on thier books. I do that for about 3 companies and the prices I get paid vary. Did a couple of 1 page sites for £150 each, a load of mini site templates for £10 each and get some logo and rush work which pays around £20-40 a job. Work just comes in as and when needed, but I have a full time job anyway and just use it for spare money until I can get a proper job in web design. But by doing that it all gets added to my portfolio which helps.

I'm afraid ebay and the other online auctions are the only ways i know that work - it depends what you've got - or know you can buy cheap to sell, how succesful you'll be!

i dont know, but deffinately do NOT sign up for doing online surveys! i was stupid enough to fork over 40 bux to a company that would pay you to do surveys. it just took me to a page full of links to other survey companies that want you to register with them, and they link you to other companies, who do the exact same thing and so on! i created a new email account (knowing i'd get spammed to death), answered a ton of surveys, and never got a penny for any of them. it's all just a huge scam.
otherwise if you've got a ton of junk, try selling it on ebay. im gonna do that with a few of my things.
