Hello- depends on your body type if you are confident and like your figure you will love a satin "harlow" style bias cut dress, nothing says golden era of hollywood ike a classic satin bias cut dress low neckline and low cut back. If you want to be more covered up you might try more of a Kate hepburn look , high waisted pants and a fitted evening jacket of silk with a sash . OR you could do a gold lame gown .
Rent the movie LA confidenial - this will giv eyou some great ideas for mens and womens clothing. A tweed jacket or a flecked sportscoat would look nice, A white tuxedo would be good too... but look fr a baggier style than is worn today.
If you want to try ebay, do a search in the mens vintage category for something called a "hollywood jacket" its a casual gabardine jacket that was typically worn by producers/directors in the 40's and 50's they really look slick in person. there are also Hollywood dropped waist pants . Oh and some two tone shoes would really set off the look. I sell vintage clothing too - so if you would like to take a look feel free

Vintage stores would be best, but decide on the style you want. Just look for photos of some old movie stars. There is a broad variety of styles - from Marilyn Monroe to Audrey Hepburn to Marlene Dietrich. As far as for your date, men can never go wrong in a tuxedo.

Hi there! I would suggest going to an antique store in your area and looking at dresses and tuxs there. Start early though especially since it is right around the corner. You will probably need to get them sized since people in that era were smaller than we are today. Look for dresses with lace in them (try not to get to lacey though because you won't have to worry about them getting caught on things all night long) silk would be good as well. Hats would be fun with feathers, and gloves would work as well. Ask the antique store owner for more details as to what people would've worn, they may have ideas on jewlery and shoes as well. What a neat idea. =) Have fun with it. Antique stores are usually pretty good prices when it comes to clothing, and remember, you can sometimes talk them down on pricing too, remember to look for yellow stains and stuff as well for age spots which can probably determine price lowering. =)

I'd get something long, and satin... I'd check out the local vintage clothing shops... Maybe a fur stole?
Think Marlena Dietrich, Veronica Lake or Grace Kelly

You could dress like Marilyn Monroe. I'm sure you could find the clothes for that at any costume shop. Or you could go as Audrey Hepburn and wear something very clean cut and dressy. You can find something like that at a department store I think.

Try looking up vintage clothing stores in your local yellow pages first. If that doesn't work, go to http/www.tias.com/stores/midnightsparkle this should give you a great example of what you are looking for.
Have a great time!

Dress like Marilyn, or Bette, Or Eva. Something a starlet would have worn in the 50's.
