Setting up Outlook Express is very easy.

First thing you need to know is if the email service provider you use allows for POP3 email. If it is the company you get your Internet service from, then probably.

Yahoo does not allow it (but if you are a Verizon Yahoo! customer you can), and gmail does. Many others do as well. Hotmail is built into Outlook Express.

Once you determine that you can get POP3 access to your email, then you need to know two very important settings:

1) The incoming mail server address
2) The outgoing server address

Once you have those start up OE. If you have never set up an account, it will ask you to do so. If not, go to Tools --> Accounts and click on the Mail tab.

Next click on the add button.

First question asks you for the name you want to appear when sending an email (shows up in the From line).

Next is email address. Then the next screen is the email type (select POP3, or leave it HTTP if you are using Hotmail).

Enter the incoming and outgoing servers (leave this part alone if you are using Hotmail).

Then username and password. Check off remember password if you like. Don't check off the SPA option.

Last step VERY IMPORTANT!

Once you finish, you will see the name of the email account in the little box you started with. Double left-click on it and click the servers tab. Check the box that say "My server requires authentication", but do not change any of the advanced settings. (skip this if you are setting up Hotmail.

This is the basic setup for most POP3 accounts.
Hope this helps.

Try clicking on "Help" at the top when you open up Outlook. There should be many helpful tutorials there.

Do you have an email account besides yahoo? Check that it can be used with POP3. If so, you can use OE. If not, no sense explaining it.
