Okay, I am having such a hard time dividing an hour into decimals!
1 hour/60 min = 1.00, ok?
½ hour/30 min = 0.50
¼ hour/15 min = 0.25

I know that, but what would 50 min, 40 min, 20 min, 5 min equal?
Can anyone post a link to a chart that displays 1 hour in all possible increments? Thanks!

50 min / 1 hour = 50 min / 60 min = 5/6 = 0.8333 (3 repeats)

40 min / 1 hour = 40 min / 60 min = 2/3 = 0.6666 (6 repeats)

20 min / 1 hour = 20 min / 60 min = 1/3 = 0.3333 (3 repeats)

5 min / 1 hour = 5 min / 60 min = 1/12 = 0.8333 (3 repeats)

In general, just take the number of minutes, divide by 60, simplify the fraction, and convert to a decimal. Sorry, I don't know of such a chart.

well.....1 hour is 60 minutes.....1/2 hour is 30 minutes.......and 1/4 hour is 15 minutes as you stated in your question right?

Well, look at the MINUTES part of that and then look at the following.

For a half hour (1/2 hour) this is 30 minutes out of 60 minutes.

30/60 = 3/6 = 1/2 ------ hence the half hour.

For 15 minutes you have:

15 minutes out of a total of 60 minutes (a full hour)......
...15/60 = 1/4 ----- hence a quarter hour, or 15 minutes.

Therefore for 50 minutes you have:

50/60 = 5/6 = 0.8333 hours

And any odd number of minutes goes the same way:

37 minutes is:

37/60 = 0.6167 hours.

Does this make sense to you? This is all there is to it.

Hope this helps you.

:)

It's really simple. Just take each time you want in decimal form and divide it by 60. That is:

50/60 = .833333333333333 or 5/6
40/60 = .666666666666666 or 2/3
20/60 = .333333333333333 or 1/3
5/60 = .0833333333333333 or 1/12

You can make your own chart in Microsoft Excel if you know how to work with the formulas.

That's easy!
For 50 mins. you divide 50/60 = 0.8333.....
For 40 mins 40/60 = 0.666666.....
For 20 mins 20/60 = 0.33333.....
For 5 mins = 0.08333......

The results are all periodical decimals. If you round the up you'll get:
50/60=0.83, 40/60 = 0.67, 20/60 = 0.33, 5/60 = 0.08
