All I can offer you is prayer. Crack Cocaine is a very aggressive addiction. I have seen firsthand horrible wrecked lives from using. Your brother has to really want to stop. Even that alone is not enough sometimes. He may want desperately to stop using, but cannot help it. Be a good support person for him, but be wary because he isn't himself when he's using. He may steal from you be verbally or physically abusive... be careful. But be loving.

There's a great hospital in Hartford, CT named Newington Cedarcrest-Blue Hills Substance Abuse Hospital that dealt with my crack cocaine habit, my alcoholism, childhood abuses and my mental illness. I was finally diagnosed properly and evaluated to see where my troubles started from and since I have been working on my past and correcting what I thought was wrong with me when what was wrong with me was that I didn't have any esteem or faith in myself first. I had to want being clean and sober then work for the results and blessing I'm enjoying today. It's crazy not to think that addiction isn't a mental and a physical thing. I've been clean two yrs. thus far and am again a productive member of society and God thanks to the excellent staff at Blue Hills, the support of my family, and my church.

I suggest these options... All of them may or may not work, I will give you the best help I can.

Prayer (PUSH: Pray until something happens)
Intervention ( I don't know if he'd like being on TV, but there are two of the very best Interventionist on TV)
Rehab
NA (Narcotics Anonymous)
Drug Counseling

It's tough to have a family member who has a drug addiction. I lost my gf because she used LSD, Meth, Speed, smoked weed, crack-cocaine, and she drank heavy liquor. Now she's mentally handicapped, permanently, and is in a mental institution

How old is he? If he is over 18, there really isn't anything you can do if he doesn't want to stop. I have experience with this, so trust me. You can't force him to get back to treatment and it won't work (even if you could) if he is angry and can't wait to get back out and use. Rehab/treatment is only part of the recovery process. After you get out you HAVE to go to a program like Narcotics Anonymous to keep you clean.

If he is underage, then your parents CAN force him into treatment. But, again, if he is angry, resents your parents for doing it and wants to use......he will.

I'm so sorry your brother has this problem..however, there isn't anything anybody can do for him. He has to WANT to stop using. I know it hurts and you're worried, sometimes life is just like this. All you can do is be there for him when and if he does want help & take care of yourself so you don't end up like him.

He'll stop when he wants to stop and there's nothing you can do for him until he makes that decision. Watch your valuables and don't let him come around anymore. Sorry.
