I am assuming that you are asking for the meaning. Well a fictitious business name is a kind of business which only exist in name but not in real. Its a fake business which doesn't exist.
Example. Microhard ( Its a fictitious business name, because i just made it up and it doesn't exist in real)

A fictitious business name is really the same as a "Doing Business As".

Which really means that when the business itself is named something other than the corporate entity that owns it.

In some states, business owners are required to file their 'fictitious business names' or DBAs with the secretary of state's office.

- fictitious business name -. in local papers you will see listing for "fictitious business names". they do this so as to alert the public of a new company in the area and also to alert anybody else who might be using the same name for a business.
- "toys r us" is a fictitious business, unless of course there is a real mr toy r us on this planet.

It doesn't mean it's a fake business. As I understand it, a fictitious business name is a name that a company or business chooses for itself--or if you're starting your own company, whatever business name you choose for yourself. Like "ABC Bakery" or "Susie's Submarine Sandwiches" or whatever. It's fictitious because your name isn't "ABC Bakery", but you might be Joe Smith, dba (doing business as) ABC Bakery.

Examples of actual fictitious business names:
Mrs. Fields Cookies
Orange County Choppers
McDonald's

This is simply a name determined by the company, posted in a circular for 2 weeks announcing the name. With this name statement you may then open a bank account and receive checks and money in that company name. This is NOT an entity.
This also protects your name from being used by others.
It is Your Company Name that you are Doing Buisness As
(DBA)

It is a name that a business goes by that is different from the business of record on the license. You usually see something like "XYZ Company d.b.a. (doing business as) General Stores"
