Just thought you should know that tallnfrie (2nd answerer) is incorrect. She means dabbled, not dappled.
Dappled is a description of what something looks like when it has a slight pattern or marking over all of it. Dappled grey is a specific colour breed in horses too.
You might say:
The rain fell on the window pane, giving it a dappled effect.
