I've heard that hedgehogs like dog food. Has anyone tried this, or know any reason not to try it? Is there any food they like better?

We put puppy food out (recommended to us by a hedgehog rescue centre). We stopped using cat food as (duh!) the local cats kept eating it. Ours is a supplement for late hogglets prior to hibernation and we also made a hedgehog house that they use for hibernation.
Just DON'T put out bread or milk, that's thought to be a bad for them now (makes them throw up). The dog food attracts slugs, which the hedgehogs also eat.Water too is a help for them as they need to bulk up for hibernation and with many of our gardens now very hedgehog unfriendly, they need a small helping hand.

Yes hedgehogs like cat or dog food. They can't digest bread and milk very well.

Thats nice of you to do that. I used to have a family of raccoons that would break into my porch all the time (we eventually just stopped replacing the screen) and if we left a door open they went in the house. They always looked so hungry and I felt obligated to feed them, lol. Only thing was is they could eat an entire bag of cat food in one night. Those buggers ate everything from yogurt off a spoon to chips right out of our hands. The momma coon even let me scratch her head.

P.S. I wouldnt recommend anyone else try to get that close to a wild raccoon. I was lucky to not get attacked.

Yes they love dog food & cat food. Some wild animals are unable to find food when they need it so if kind hearted people want to leave food out to help them then feel free otherwise these animals may die

Yes, but bear in mind that if you leave it out all night it will attract foxes and possibly rats and mice.

I wouldn't recommend feeding wild animals. They will come back and attract animals that you don't want around.
