Everyone thought the tigers were done when they went 19-31 and blew the division title and the twins finished the season on a roll. But in the playoffs, it was the tigers who got hot and the twins who got swept out of the first round. Three out of four of the first round series were also won by the team without homefield advantage. And it wasn't that shocking that the yankees lost, since they lose every year.

You make some good points, but do remember that only 4 teams per league make it, so the regular season figures to be more meaningful than it is in the other pro sports.
But, it was hard to predict that the Twins would sink and the Tigers would rise. And, the Cardinals really stumbled down the stretch. Then, you factor in the recent wild card teams who have won it all, and it gets a little confusing.

I think the regular season still means something. In baseball any team can win at any given time, but that's why the play series within the season. I look at the season as what could come in the post season. Some teams match up better against sometimes and not as well with others and the regular seaons reflects this. You make a good point however, because anything can happen in the post season, which it what I think makes baseball great.

Yes, it means something because:
--you can't get into the postseason if you don't win in the regular season
--you learn who your starters and key reilevers are
--you rest people up for the post-season

the homefield advantage point is less relevant because anything can happen in a 5-game series. Once you get the split of the first two, the other team gains the home-field advantage.

that's genuine common to criticize a guy or woman for making a international sequence p.c.. in the previous the season began after the season is underway. Hindsight is often 20/20. On paper the purple Sox appeared notably sturdy in the previous the season began fwiw...maximum people who understand something approximately MLB will probable believe that assessment. some issues are no longer common to foresee (like gamers who've traditionally hit properly no longer having the flexibility to hit for video games on end or pitchers who're generally sturdy getting shelled in consecutive outings and so on.,), despite in case you're a paid analyst.

The regular season matters until it is over. Once the playoffs begin though, it means nothing. All playoff teams have an equal shot to win.
