If asked... I almost always say.... Get a Yamaha DT50, or a Suzuki TS50... Bomb proof reliable, cheap, light, fun and low insurance.

If you have a few quid and want a race rep... Aprillia RS50... Then moveup to an RS125.... They look complex but having just rebuilt an RS125, theyre pretty good bikes, simple enough and easy to work on if you leave the swing arm alone.

If you buy and RS.... apart from all your safety gear.... buy yourself a paddock stand too, for ease of maintainance and parking up for more than a few days.

2 stroke and 4 stroke engines is the amount of "strokes" it takes to turn the engine the engine size has nothing to do with it u must have the correct amount of oil mixed in to the petrol to help stop the engine from over heating a normal "4 stroke"oil is to thick and will prevent the petrol from igniting in the cylinder which is why "2 stroke"oil is a separate product that you must use to keep the bike from seizing any motor cycle shop will have it in stock for you to buy and it is inexpensive the ratio you need to mix does depend on the bike in the chinese mini moto dirt bikes the mixture is 25-1 (which means for every 1ml of oil it needs to be mixed with 25ml of petrol) so you need to do a little math when mixing most 2 stroke oil containers have the ratios marked on the side for ease of use

ktm 65 is a good starter bike failing that you cant go wrong with a aprila but dont buy one older than 02 as the newer models are bit more tricky to handle if you are lacking in experience

Just get yourself any old banger to get you around for a year cheaply and save your money for a decent 125 or your restricted test. Not worth bothering too much about looks on a fifty.

derbi makes a 50cc sport bike, pretty sharp looking. some more bikes are: aprilia rs50, motorhispania rx50, yamaha tzr50, oh, and the derbi is the gpr50.

James,
Get yourself something that is cheap to insure and to build your skills on. Avoid race replicas. They are costly.
Why not a 125cc motorbike?

If you mean a crosser get a Husqvarna 50.

If you mean a road bike then get an Aprillia.

Hope this helps!

Why limit your choices to 50cc bikes?

50cc can only go upto 30mph. Get a 125cc motorbike. Or a car. Or get the bus. Or walk.
