If a parent really wants a kid to get a good education, should they rely completely on the school system, or take an educator's role with their kid also?

Education is a partnership. No parent should ever rely completely on the public education system to fully educate their child. That's just irresponcible parenting.

Parents should always have an opinion and knowledge on what is going on in every aspect of their child's life, and education is no different. While they cannot "teach" the child what the school system is (unless they are homeschooling), they can always remain active by asking questions, helping with homework, and maintaining open communication with the teachers. Too many parents either force themselves into the schools and change everything to benefit only their child or by not having any participation in the education process. Why can't we find a happy medium?

This is the deal. Most parents probably know less then what is being taught in schools. Ppl blame the parents for the lack of their childs education. How can you do that. You can't be in school holding his/her hand making sure they get everything down. They have to work to put food on the table. Majority of the time its not the teachers failing the students, its the students failing themselves. Thats what happens when they don't pay attention in schools.

i think that parents hould play and active role in thier children's eduation. they shoudl not expect the kids to come home form school, do homework, and play with out the parents even reallt knowing what is going on. Parents should try to help and/or supervise homwork on wekends, and make an effort to encousge reading and visting museums on thier own. My family always traveled a lot and I ahave learned i lot about diffrent cutures and places by traveoling with my family. As a child, my parents always read to me, and then I read to them, etc.

Yes alot of parents leave their childs total education to the schools. They have become glorified babysitters for alot of working parents.
