My four month old is going to be crawling soon and I was wondering what all I should do to baby proof my house. I am planning on blocking the outlets and stuff like that but I wanna know what else I should do. I wanna have everything safe.

make sure there arent any soap bottles or anything on the edge of your bathtub, get on your hands and knees on the floor and pull on any tables or anything to make sure they wont fall on the baby. put child locks on all your cabinets and closets, thats all i can think of for now.

It is good to be prepared, however, 4 months old is still pretty little to start crawling. Not all babies crawl, but those that do usually get proficient about 7-10 months. To baby-proof your home, get down on your baby's level. Lay on the floor and look around the room. What will attract a baby's attention? Cords are favorites. Cords to lamps, computers, stereos, TV, phones, etc. should all be hidden out of sight or secured up out of baby's reach (a twist tie works pretty good to wrap a cord and keep it in place). Check the stability of tables, chairs, entertainment centers. A very common progression from crawling is trying to pull up to a standing postion. Secure any thing that is a hazard of her pulling it over on her. Little fingers love to play with the buttons and the slots on TVs, VCR's, and DVD players. Move them up higher or block them. Check the contents of all your lower cupboards, shelves, and drawers. Either buy latches for these or only place items in those lower places that don't pose a threat, such as tupperware or plastic dishes in the bottom cupboard and socks in the bottom dresser drawer. Use baby gates to block all stairs. If she is poised to crawl at this young age, be prepared that she will most likely find something to get into regardless of how much you do to make things safe for her. Also, keep your purse and the purses of guests out of her reach - lots of stuff in them that are bad for babies.

I have baby siblings(big age diifference) but we recently had to baby proof the house. We bought the following stuff:

Safety 1st Gate: To keep the babies out of the hall.
The plastic covers to cover the outlets.
Safety 1st cabinet locks for the kitchen
Safety 1st Door Knob covers

Also, simple things like keeping your air/heat vents covered up so the baby dosen't ram into them would be smart.

Good luck!

Get down on your hands and knees and have a look around. Sometimes we don't see the things that will be dangerous to them on their level. Make sure all stairs are blocked, outlets covered, cords put up out of reach so they can't pull anything down, lock cupboards, put up meds and toxic chemical, etc... Good Luck!!

You can get a gate for your doorways, get lactches for your drawers, get those soft rubber things for your coffee table if they have points on each side and for your fireplace too.

Move all the things that your baby could bring down and into the mouth. Close doors you do not want your baby going into.

Hope this helps..

what i did was borrowed someone else's kid and had them crawl all over the house and followed them to see what caught their attention the most. this will help you take note of what you may not have thought of. You'd be so surprised at what you will have missed.

i read also to get down on your hands and knees and look at everything eyelevel to get an idea of what a baby will see.

Put foam on anything with sharp corners (i.e. coffee table), locks on any cabinets with harmful or dangerous things in them, gate off rooms you don't want the baby crawling in, gate off stairways as well. Also, move or get rid of any lightweight furniture that the baby could possibly grab and pull over on themselves.

here are all the things you need to baby proof your house
http://www.safety1st.com/product_search.asp?searchType=setting&searchValue=8

They sell these at Walmart......

at 4 months.......bascially crawl on the ground and see what you see at their level that is hazardous....and take those things away or block it.

Getting corner pads for the table corners.....
blocking out the fireplace....

it gets more complicated when they start pulling themselves up tot a standing or when they start walking you will have to lock up EVERYTHING!
Right now......just whatever is at their level.......remove it....
and their fingers are like pincers and tweezers they can pick up the SMALLEST things........so vaccum ALOT!!

that's all for now!

P.S. another link you can get some more info on all the different products out there for child proofing

Safety gates, remove breakables and small objects to higher location, block TV and stereo wires. The best defense though is keeping an eye on her.
