here on this site, had political views when we were younger that we have grown to know were not accurate? Simple question. Do you realize or not? Are you smarter than you were when you were younger(say 16 or so)? If so, then do you think you could be wrong now? I can only wait and see the responses this one will bring.

stephaniemar - Your reply of knowing the same at 26 as you did at 12 is......well I'll leave that up to the intelligent 18-30yr olds that I was seeking. Congrats you probably made a whole lot of good minds cringe!

I realize many things that I didn't when I was young, of course. There are many things that only life experiences can bring to light. I'm in my early 30's now. I only wish that I had the knowledge of the old now so that I could make the best decisions for my future. I feel that I'm already passing up the ones in my age group in the sense of understanding, but only because I've been through so much. I don't claim to know everything. They say that's how you know when you've matured. I wish that I had more guidance of older people. Sometimes it's hard to get guidance from people older than you since they percieve their advice as being something that won't be listened to. I make life harder than it has to be at this stage in my life and I know that I'll grow out of it too. Life is just a long learning experience. God help me as long as I don't lose my mind I'll do my best to improve myself everyday I'm here on this earth. Politically, I feel that in order to gain an accurate knowledge one has to be involved in the inside workings of the government. I know that many of the things that I've seen and came to learn have made me feel a bit different over the last ten years. I won't express my viewpoints. But I know that things aren't always as peachy as they may make it out to be.

I am 30. I have learned that with the exception of Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry that there are no facts in this world, only opinions. When I was younger I used to think that just because someone important said something that seemed intelligent (especialy if they were on a newschannel) that the statement constituted a fact. Now I realize the news and many reports we have access to are mere opinions filtered through other opinions. A good reporter (a good one, hard to find today) would say that in order to get a good story, you have to dig to the bottom and when you think you have reached the bottom, keep digging. Then report what you find regardess. That doesn't happen often today, but because I know that I take many reports at face value and do my own digging. I have learned that the most important thing is to try keep a truly open mind, cause if someone already has an opinion they are likely going to look for reasons to support it and discard reasons against it, regardless of validity.

Your question is vague but I am answering because I finally fall into the "young Category" (30). Thank you for that. While there has been a considerable change in the way I view the world over the past 15 years, I do not suspect that my view will change again so dramatically, I also cannot rule that out. I will say that, in my life, I have never been more informed that I am right now, of course that will change by the end of this answer. While it is true that I am shaped by the things I experience, it is also true that I experience things with the same mind set every time. Will I view the world differently in 15 years, I'll let you know in 30.

I am currently 26 and if I ever get to be so old and jaded that I stop caring about human life and the suffering that goes on in this country daily because our government cares more about the bottom line than helping improve the quality of life for its own citizens I hope I am dead. I have thought the same way about what I believe since I was 12 years old I truly believe its how I was born. I would never ever want to be one of the people who thinks they know what is best for everyone. I never want to be so old and "wise" that I forget what our government is capable of. I never want to be so "wise and old" that I will just blindly follow our elected officials out of fear for my own safety. I never want to be so old and wise, that I would think its a good idea to sacrifice the freedoms that our forefathers fought for. I never want to be so old that I think, yeah part of the constitution can be done away with because it doesnt suit the thinking of right now. I never want to be so old and wise, that I feel I should inflict my personal beliefs on someone else.
I hope I always think the same way I do right now.

I didnt explain that well, I didnt mean I still have the same thought process at 26 that I did at 12, I meant that I have been a liberal minded person since I was 12 years and dont think that will change.

I'd be pretty uspet if I wasn't smarter now than when I was 16 years old.

My views have changed significantly since that time, but my conviction has not, and I hope it never will.

I can only assume that some of my views or ideals now will seem wrong when I am older but that doesn't mean that they are not right...right now... for me.

I am as right as I can be considering what I know now.

Of course! That is the way things are supposed to work. Generally, we young people think that we have learned all that there is to know about something even without having any experience with it. But as we grow older, we gradually learn better than that.

Well, most do, anyway. There is always going to be some exceptions to that.

I am 30 now, I still hold the same political views that I did at 17. The only difference is now that I am older I voice them. When I was younger I did not.

I'm 28 and much smarter than at 16. Though I do believe a lot of my moral values have not changed those were pretty strong from the start.

Well Churchill said "If you're under 30, and you aren't a liberal, then you have no heart and if you're over 30, and you aren't a conservative, then you have no brain"... so I see where you're going... Yes I am smarter and I hope to continue with that, but I hope to never lose my liberal idealism and desire to truly make the world better for everyone, not just me... i think as people get older they tend to be more conservative because they tend to lose that hope... which makes them more inclined to be selfish and not worry too much about the betterment of us all. I guess I'll find out though! :)

Every political view has to be innacurate to allow for debate?
I realise, i or not?
4 years ago i was smart and dumb enough to allow myself become a twenty something with the need for closure beguiling my thoughts, i am almost always wrong now so i guess the future holds change for all of us?
