Person that create quilts and such are going by the wayside due to the availability of cheaper machine manufactured items. Is the art of handmade items to be replaced?

I prefer hand crafted items...particularly in quilts but by that I mean not quilted by a pre-programmed computer...I have no problem with machine quilting as long as it's the quilter doing the work, not just stuck in the cloth and push a button

Yes and no. There is and always will be a market for handcrafted items.
I'm a craftsperson and make Venetian style moulded paper masks, they've recently seen a huge swing in popularity again which is great for my work!

as a crafter of handmade cards and scrapbooks i think hand crafted items will always b in demand. hand crafted things r that little bit more special.
