I think the problem is that people just don't care. Many people don't think that the way they speak or write has any reflection on their intelligence or quality as a person. This may sound like a crappy thing to say but I do believe that people who can speak and write more correctly just come across as better in many ways. Actually, I'm sort of glad that most people sound like idiots these days because it makes those of us who do care about doing it correctly look better.

I agree that language is a means to an end, but if you can't use it then you aren't accomplishing your goal. And besides you wouldn't want to associate yourself with someone who dressed in rags and you could tell hadn't bathed in a while. Language is the first appearance when talking to people over the Internet. If you can't use it properly, then one would have doubts as to just how well educated you are. Most people don't stop to take the time to say things correctly because they don't care about saying it correctly, which also says something about the type of person you are. What can we do about it? i really have no answer to that question. It's become increasingly less important to use language correctly because it is devolving on the Internet. There is an entire new language used on-line and no way to show people that proper language is still important.

People are getting lazy were diction & spelling are concerned.
What REALLY fu_ kin pis_es me off is the way the black coulture
is coming more & more in to use by white people ( who think they is black innit ) weather it be in normal conversation or during texting on the mobile phone.
They way to stop it is to MAKE people use proper diction.

Some peoples' typing fingers are too quick!

I don't judge peoples' spelling. Language is a means to an end, not the end itself.
