rose_merrick, i realise that a lot of people who were considered geniuses did have arrogance, but there seems to be a lot more people with it now who in my opinion have very little to give.

Sgt Squid, a little arrogance may not be too bad if a person has some talent. But I think if someone has talent then he would be able to let that speak for him.

Confidence, in my opinion, is very important. If you are not confident with your ability how do you aspect others to be confident with your ability? Some people however would like to come across as confident and assertive, but unfortunately they may have crossed the line between being assertive and being arrogant. I find that the most modest people are also the most competent because they reached a stage of knowing their own limitation.
Also arrogant people can be competent but dangerous because they may not know their own limitations

A friend of mine works in a hospital with a giant staff of arrogant dr's. Without them though, would medicine advance, and is a little arrogance OK?

yes i fully agree, have seen this all to often and even experienced it. the better looking and more up themselves a person is the less they fell the need to make an effort. they feel superior to other people and don't seem bothered about letting it show.

not necessarily - many geniuses do not tolerate others very well. They have knowledge to offer, but are unable to share it due to poor and negative attitudes.

Absolutely. They're just making up for their short-comings by pretending to be special.

It depends, each one has his/her own sense of life. Remember that we do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unequally. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one sphere, immature in another.
