I recently added a high effeciency 2 stage furnace, and am wondering what I should set the temperature differential on my thermostate, options are 1,2, or 3 degrees. I only have a one stage thermostate and so the 2nd stage will kick in if it hasn't satisfied the desired temperature after 12 minutes.
Is it better for the furnace to have a lower setting, 1, and have the furnace come on more but operate at the first stage more?
Or have it come on less, 2 or 3, and have it run for longer and move into stage 2?

Thanks,
Rich

Setting the differential is purely a comfort call on the part of the home's occupants. Set it at 2. If you feel chilly before the furnace comes on again set it at 1. Some people prefer that the furnace cycle less often because they object to the noise more than the potential chill between heating cycles. Try it at different settings until you find the best setting for all concerned. Good luck.

It is mainly a comfort option. If you are comfortable with 3 then that will be more efficient. I would try it at 2 or 3 and see if you are still comfortable if you are then leave it like that for the efficiency.

DEPENDS ON HOW HOT YOU WANT TO GET DURING THE "SWING"..... BIGGER NUMBER LESS CYCLES, BUT LONGER CYCLES
THE START UP USES THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF POWER.
