This one is for the real oldies -- you should be at least 75 to be able to answer this one. It used to be my dad's favourite. We had it years ago on 78 rpm records. It's about a schoolmaster who taught spelling in song. "Constantinople, C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E."
So ask your moms, dads, grannies and grandads, but please get me the words from wherever. It's driving me nuts.

I think it's this one.

'C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E' was a very successful novelty hit by Bing Crosby with Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra, then by Bix Beiderbecke, Ernie Golden's Orchestra and others.

It can be bought here:

I cannot find a transcription for the lyrics anywhere, but maybe you can have a look at getting the recording itself.

This is the only song about constantinople I know of.

Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
"Istanbul" 1953

Words by Jimmy Kennedy
Music by Nat Simon

"It's Istanbul, not Constantinople now ...." Leave it to Tin Pan Alley to turn centuries of ethnic and religious struggles into a catchy ditty. This song, although copyrighted by Kennedy and Simon, is a direct descendant of the humourous piece, "Al-Bar the Bubul Emir" that could be found in the pages of "Captain Billy's Whizbang," an early 20th century precursor to "Mad Magazine."

Lyrics:

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul (Istanbul)

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works
That's nobody's business but the Turks

So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works

Been a long time gone from Constantinople,
Now a Turkish delight on a moonlit night.

Even old New York,
Was once New Amsterdam,
Why they changed it I can't say,

Sure, just go to google.com and write the name of the song and add lyrics, it should work.

Thanks,
