...within the first couple months of life, or can they change gender at any given time?

Have you ever had any experience with your fish changing gender? How old were they when you noticed the change?

I had guppy fry born back in June - due to a series of unfortunate events, only three of the eleven survived. Out of those three, one was definitely male, while the other two were definitely female. They were put in the community tank, and the male kept trying to, uh, have relations with his mother. So we removed her from the tank. Now, one of the females is definitely male, and I'm fairly sure the other female is changing sex, too.

So now there are no females left in the tank. Is there any chance that the fish that have changed sexes will now change back? Or are they all going to remain male forevermore?

many of the female livebearers can change gender is situations where there are few males present in the population. these "new" males produce only female offspring.

depending on the age of the guppies you may have been mistaken in you sexing. When the guppies are really small they are not fully developed and all look female, they later go through "puberty" and develop the proper look. But yes they can change gender in drastic cercumstances but usually they do not until they are very older, other livebearers such as mollies and platties change sex also. Oh and did you know Guppies also can change colors??

I didn't know guppies did that, I'd only heard of clownfish and sw parrotfish doing that. That's neat lol, I've got 3 male guppies, if one goes XX I'll let ya know :)

i thought they could do it later too. i think clown fish can if they were a mated pair and one dies and a new one comes into the territory, i think the larger will produce eggs eventually. but i might be wrong.
