Ok, I'm 21 years old and have had very regular periods for the last 10 years (every 28 days) and never missed once in those 10 years. Last month I was 5 days late, and during the week leading up to it had a lot of lower back pain, nausea etc etc (normal symptoms) but no period until it finally arrived. Once arrived, it was a medium flow for a couple of days with clotting , and then really light after that for a few more days (am normally heavy then medium then light for 6-7 days i.e.a regular period) . I ticked pregnancy off the list because my test was negative. Now this month I am due shortly, but again, a week before am having lower back pain, absolutely exhausted and VERY hormonal! Usually my pain starts with my period - never a week or so before. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate our bodies are always changing, but its scary when it's you! Sorry this is so long.

No way, i was 21 when my periods started changing, and like yourself i was very regular until then - you could set your clock by them! it's just a sign of getting older, your bodies adjusting to things. i'm well grumpy for the 4 days leading upto my period and thats how i know i'm due. i know if you start taking the pill it can alter the timing and heavyness of a period amongst other things. but also some months are longer than others so perhaps the few days are coming fom misjudging the day it should fall on.

But it's nothing to worry about, the clotting probably came from the fact it was a few days later than normal. i'm not a doctor so i can only offer my opinion, if you're worried though you should speak to your doctor.

:-)

Hi, my periods never changes but my mood swings and getting over emotional and i never used to get bloatedness 3 weeks before until just recent. Then i read somewhere that a womens hormones change every 5 years. So may be this could have something to do with your periods changing. Are you under a lot of stress or is something not usually in your everyday life. I dont think its serious but i would go to the doctor and get yourself checked out. The doctor may help you out. Maybe try talking evening primrose oil, or star flower. I

Have you started taking pills or lost weight recently? Are you anaemic? If yes, then maybe because of that. I hope what you are having is nothing, but it can be caused by other physical reasons too, so I recommend you to go see your doctor soon.
My sister used to have symptoms like you are having now and went to a doctor, and was told that it's stress related. She is fine now, though.
As you can loose good amount of minerals (especially iron) due to period, if you are suffering form irregularity or heavy one, taking multi vitamin and mineral tablets sometimes helps. Talk to a pharmacist.

Lower back pain and cramping are a sign of blood clots. they could also be the cause of the variation in your cycle. exercise helps to pass clots easier. it may also be time for a D&C. It's basically an out-patient surgery So there will be no hospital stay. Talk to your Gyn. If you don't have one get one it's time.

Maybe you should get on birth control, go to Gynecologist and ask because sometimes it better controls your period (amount of time, consistency, and pain)
