My daughter wants a hip hop theme for her 16th birthday and she wants to perform a dance with a few friends. Any suggestions for decor...it will be in August. How about a real outstanding entrance?

August, 2007. I have to have time to plan. There will be about 200 people.

ok...first of all, dude is trippin. your lil girl will be 16. there is no reason to treat her party like a club scene. 16 year olds will wear baggy pants, wife beaters, etc. they are 16, it will be fine. you don't need to have a dress code. as far as the decor, keep it dark with cool light accents. string lights, strobe, fog machine, posters of rap stars hung around, "wine" in chillers (use the grape juice stuff in bottles that look like wine), room for dancing, areas with oversized pillows to sit around on, just kinda like a club scene but toned down since she will only be 16. and no 80's theme. that would just embarass your daughter. watch music videos on BET and you'll get some ideas.

Get a metal detector for the enterance. Make sure you notify the police. Place a sign at the front door NO Tanks/Wifebeaters, NO Baggy Pants, NO Backwards Caps, etc.

Seriously though, just make sure and get a good DJ if possible. Make sure he's spinning the newest hits. If you prefer them be curse free then ask the DJ if he has curse free music.

Maybe for the enterance you can put up posters of rappers or hip hop artist like Usher, Neyo, and Beyonce? Also, a velvet rope would be sweet! Make it feel like the front door of a popular club.

Do a throw back 80's hip-hop theme. If you know nothing about hip-hop then this will go horribly wrong, but you could always look up what hip-hop USED to be like way back when...
