They do replace the battery. It costs around $60. But there are sites and stores that sell the iPod battery and It is cheaper to buy it than to send it to Apple. The hard part of this is opening the iPod to install the battery. Once is open, it's really easy to plug.

Also, if you send your iPod to Apple, they might as well send you another iPod, not yours, not even the same generation.

From what I've heard they send you a replacement for free if its still under warrenty...

Although they could charge you a very high price for a new battery and send it back too you with non of your music on it :((.

Best to buy a new one mate. I had a Nano for 3 hrs and lost it about two dozen times, so I got a 30Gb and it works wonders.
