The GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) has been used by B-schools on this side of the pond for a long time (I took it in 1980). It is an exemplar of the academic rigors of the MBA curriculum and an indicator of whether a candidate is likely to succeed them. B-schools are as challenging as they are expensive.

For these reasons, it seems to me that any serious candidate would be eager to take the test before jumping in with both feet. Irrespective of where you hope to go for your degree, why would you want to avoid it? Getting into B-school is the easy part.

To answer the expected questions: yes, I passed my GMAT, and graduated with an MBA in 1984.

In UK u can do MBA with out GMAT but in that case u have to have minimum 2 years business/technical experience.UK MBA is mainly for experienced persons and the avg. age is 29 so almost all the MBA guys normally have 5-6 years industry experience.Even if u are not a graduate but have 15-20 years solid experience in industry then also u can do MBA from some good universities.I have a friend who is an electronics diploma holder with 25 years of work experience in British Royal Air force had finished his MBA last year.
So if u have a work experience then with out GMAT also u can do MBA from UK but only go for a good university otherwise in long run u will be the looser.

If you are really interested in doing MBA to attain professonal competency, why do you desire to go without GMat. Number of unauthorized institutions may be there to oblige you but you should be careful in finding whether the degree conferred by them is recognised.
